Names I’d Rather Have
This week’s Listicle topic is 10 Names I’d Rather Have. Everyone, at one time or another has wanted a different name. Hmmmm. What I would name myself given the chance? I know, it definitely wouldn’t be anything like Julia… too many people (Nana included) call me Julie, which is NOT my name. I hate the name Julie – it sounds like a stuck up, preppy, bleached-out cheerleader. (No offense if your name is Julie!)
I like the name Julia. I was named by my daddy – after Julia Child. Yet, most people forget to tack the A on the end and it is very frustrating. Sometimes, it downright pisses me off. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to correct people – even those in my own family! Sometimes I just make the “a” sound when they say Julie, other times I just don’t answer them. Its kinda disrespectful, at least I think so. Now, Nana is probably getting ready to respond below, saying its a nickname or pet name. No, Jules, Ju-Ju, or Jule is a nickname. NOT Julie.
Julie is not the name of an butt-kicking, name-taking, roll-with-the-punches, accountant and drag racer. I cannot imagine the announcer saying, “Here’s Julie, pulling up to the line.” Nope. It doesn’t sound right.
Growing up (and still) I love to read, and when I come across a good character name, I think “Oh, I wish that were my name. It’d be easier.”
So, given the opportunity… these are the names I would rather have…
- Abigail
- Jacqueline
- Cassandra
- Elise
- Juliet
- Marina
- Cecelia
- Tessa
- Amelia
- Angelina
Which name do you think would fit me best? Do you wish you had a different name?

My SIL’s name is Julia. I call her Jules. I really like Amelia from your list though.

I think that’s funny that you tack on the “uh” when people call you Julie. It grates my nerves when people call my son Bryson by the name Bryce. I usually tack on the “un” for them as well! Btw, your name made my graphic (even inspired by you because I knew you’d be linking up) and I remember the “a”. That means I get extra brownie points, right? Hehe.

Absolutely! And, I don’t have to sound like a goofball when I grunt UH afterwards.

Most of the time, I am perfectly happy with the name I have been given. Every now and then I wish to be called, ‘Wonder Woman’. Hee hee.

Argh, yes, it’s a pain when no-one can deal with your name properly, eh? And it really is too bad, because I agree that JuliA is lovely! I like the thought of pulling names from characters in books (my son’s name is one such), this is a great list.

I made sure when we named our kids that they couldn’t be messed up. Of course, I was on complete bed rest for three months, so I had alot of time to think about it. LOL.

Dearest Julia, yes your father named you. And I did not want Julia I wanted Julie. But of course he won. So in my defense that is why I called you Julie all these years!
