Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 611

Julia

Happy Hump Day! I cannot believe that the Wednesday Hodgepodge is on Volume 611 this week! I think my first Hodgepodge was in the 200’s! If you aren’t familiar with the Hodgepodge, every Sunday, you grab the questions over on From This Side of the Pond, answer them and link up on Wednesday – an old school linky party! Ready? Let’s go!

1. What’s a characteristic you admire in others? Elaborate.

I have a few, but the top one would be resilience. And, I admire it, not because I am not resilient, but because I know how hard it is to be that way! I have always looked at life as either you can roll with it and keep going or you can curl up in a ball and never be what you are meant to be. I have always chosen to roll with it – and I admire that characteristic in other people.

2. Do you have a favorite mug? Let’s see it. Why is this one your favorite?

I don’t drink coffee (unless it is a Frappuccino from Starbucks), so I really don’t have mugs. I am not even sure I have a favorite glass. Is that a thing? Should I have one?

3. July 15th is/was National Give Something Away Day…will you (or did you, depending on what day you answer these questions) give something away? If so what? Do you regularly give away or do you tend to  ‘accumulate’?

I am definitely an accumulator. I tend to hold onto things with the mindset “what if I need it?” This past weekend, I did get rid of a lot of things that were in our garage from when I moved to the farm. It was a struggle… even now, I am worried I got rid of something I might need!

4. You’re planning a trip. Do you prefer exploring big cities or smaller, more off the grid towns? World Atlas lists these 12 ‘off the grid’ towns to see in 2025. How many on the list have you seen? Of those listed which one would you most like to visit? Tell us why?

Boothbay Harbor Maine, Middlebury Vermont, New Hope Pennsylvania, Rehoboth Beach Delaware, Brevard North Carolina, Saugatuck Michigan, Medora North Dakota, Ouray Colorado, Lamoille Nevada, Neah Bay Washington, Hood River Oregon, or Cambria California

*You can read more about each destination by clicking the link above.

I definitely prefer smaller, off-grid places. Give me a small town, a diner or local restaurant and a couple of cool antique stores and I am a happy camper. Of those on the list, I have been to Middlebury, Vermont on the “Great New England Road Trip” the kids and I went on a couple of years ago. We were close to Boothbay Harbor, Maine also, but we didn’t go there. I think I would like to visit any of the locations out West. I haven’t visited most of those states, so it would be fun.

5. Have you ever…ridden a motorcycle? been to a Disney park? met a celebrity? won a contest? Tell us something about whatever you answered yes to on this list.

Yes to all of those! Of those experiences, the best one is when I had the opportunity to meet David Hasselhoff… except when he was walking towards me surrounded by a bunch of beautiful women, I couldn’t remember his name! As he got closer, I said “Oh my God! Its Michael Knight!” (It was my favorite show when I was younger, what can I say?!) He heard me and broke away from the crowd of women and came over and shook my brother and I’s hand! After he walked away, my brother said, “You know his name is David Hasselhoff, right?” I was mortified! For years, my family never let me forget that the one time I met David I called him by a 1980’s TV show character!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Last night, we had a possum try to break into the chicken run to get to the chickens before they were shut up for the night. I happened to go out there (and almost stepped on him) and saw him half in the pen. Tonight, when we got home, in 84 degree weather, I looked out the back door and my amazing husband was outside hanging a solar motion detector light on my coop in hopes of scaring away the next possum. He makes me insane sometimes, but I love him.

Wow! So nice to see you here! I was reading through some old Hodgepodges recently trying to find something and I looked at so many names of bloggers who no longer blog. Some I’ve stayed in touch with outside of blogging but some just disappeared into the internet. It sounds like you’re happy. Congratulations on your wedding and living the farm life of your dreams. That’s wonderful.

I really like how you answered #1 and I guess I admire resilience for the same reason. I think that as a society we don’t promote resilience as much as we should, perhaps. Cute story about meeting Michael Knight . . . er, David Hasselhoff! Nice to meet you through the Hodgepodge and I hope you’re having a great week!
