Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 613
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another round of random thoughts, mild chaos, and questionable life choices—also known as the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Around here, we’re juggling chickens, dodging laundry piles, and pretending we have it all together (spoiler: we don’t). So grab your coffee—or something stronger—and settle in for a midweek mix of random questions from Joyce over at From this Side of the Pond.

1. On July 29th 1957 The Tonite Show premiered with Jack Parr as it’s host. This marked the beginning of the modern day talk show. Do you watch any daytime or late night talk shows today? Do you have any thoughts on the hubbub surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, or are you more in the camp of ‘who is Stephen Colbert?
I’m not one to seek out talk shows, but if I’m channel surfing and happen to land on one, I might stick around for a few minutes—just enough to catch the drama before flipping on. These days, I’m more of a “watch the highlights on social media the next morning with coffee” kind of person. That said, I used to be a devoted Jerry Springer viewer back in my dealership days. The breakroom was tiny, but every tech crammed in like it was must-see TV—and honestly, it kind of was. As for the show’s cancellation, I have my thoughts. But let’s be real—there’s always more to the story, and you can’t put all your trust in what mainstream media decides to tell you.
2. What’s the best part of your day?
Walking out to the chicken coop to lock the girls up each night, the sun is still setting behind the barn and it is so beautiful.
3. What’s something your generation does that you actually dislike?
I hate when my generation (Gen-X) is always so down on other generations. Its a different time and I think a lot of X’rs forget that. They want more recent generations to behave the way we do and have the same beliefs and personalities – and it is not going to happen. Times have changed, most things have gotten better. As Gen-X’rs, we are amazing at adapting… so adapt.
4. When you cook do you clean as you go, or clean it all up once you’re finished cooking? What’s the last thing you cooked/baked in your own kitchen?
I am a clean after I’m finished… possibly the next day. Thankfully, my daughter has been cooking a lot these days, but I think the last thing I made was dishes for a picnic we went to for the miniature group I am in. I made olive garlic bread, brownies, and hanky panky.
5. Sum up your July in ten words or less.
Where did it go?
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I need a long vacation in a mountain cabin with a stack of books and a couple of cats.
