Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 619
It’s Wednesday, which means we’re back at it with another batch of Hodgepodge questions. Spoiler alert: I still haven’t found my energy since the late 80’s, clothes shopping is my personal version of torture, and yes, people really are the fastest way to drain my battery. On the flip side, libraries are still magical, mashed potatoes and noodles fix almost everything, and life feels a whole lot safer when I’ve already mapped out three escape routes in my head. Buckle up—it’s going to be a mix of sass, comfort food, and a little reality check.
Make sure you hop over and visit Joyce at From this Side of the Pond and grab this week’s questions and link up!

1. What gives you energy? What takes it away?
I haven’t had energy since the late 80’s. Kidding aside, being able to relax and knowing I don’t have anything to do that day. Pete and I call those “no bones days.” People. People take away my energy. Especially people with no common sense.
2. How often do you shop for clothes? What accessory do you always wear?
I never shop for clothes, I hate it. I usually always wear – at least during the week or if we are going somewhere – my wedding ring and my Pixel watch. If it is work hours, I also have my lanyard and badge. I swap my lanyards out periodically. Right now, it is Strawberry Shortcake.
3. What’s something free that you feel grateful for?
Libraries. There is something about knowing you can go into any library in the world, and someone there will help you find what you need, answer a question, or just let you be. Librarians are amazing people. Libraries are amazing places.
4. Breakfast, lunch, dinner…which meal of the day do you enjoy most? What’s your go-to comfort food?
I’d have to say dinner. Usually, that is our big meal of the day. My go-to comfort food is either beef and noodles or chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes. For some reason, it makes me feel like my Grandma and Grandpa is standing right there with me.
5. This week the world remembers the tragic events of 9/11. Do you mark the day in any way? How do historical events shape your perspective on your personal challenges?
I do not mark the day in any special way. Honestly, life changed for me that day. I am very cautious now going to public places, I locate and map out in my head 2-3 exits when I am in a public building or outside. My ex-husband and I would go so far as identifying which kiddo we would be “in charge of” if something happened and we had to escape from whatever location we were in. Its scary. Watching the second plane hit on TV was horrific. I remember I was in the Jaguar customer waiting room at work (staff wasn’t allowed in there, ever) and when it happened, everyone started holding hands and crying. The world stopped being safe.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Its been a rough week at work. And I’ve got nothing. I am mentally and emotionally drained. I only can hope it gets better.
Thanks for stopping by my corner of chaos—same time next Wednesday?

People sap my energy too! And common sense is an increasingly rare commodity.
Loved your thought of libraries as something free you are grateful for!

I’m reading this at 8:30 PM. What a day it has been. There’s so much hate in our country currently it’s hard to stomach. I find noodles comforting too, even just noodles with butter. Hope your week gets better!

Hi Julie. I really enjoyed your answers. I feel the same about 9-11. I don’t feel totally comfortable in crowds. My husband served 20 years in the military and then law enforcement for a few years and then corporate security and he’s taught me to be more aware. In restaurants, out and about. The world isn’t a safe place anymore and we should not ever believe it can never happen again.
I’m sorry you’re having a trying time at your work this week – just get through the week and then rejuvenate yourself this weekend. I’m retired now but I remember how that was. Thanks for visiting my blog today.
