Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 620

Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 620

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another round of Hodgepodge! This week’s mix has me reflecting on birthdays past and present, deciding whether I’m more of a confetti-and-cake type or a quiet porch-swing observer, and even tossing in a little farmyard drama for good measure. Pour yourself something warm (or bubbly), settle in, and let’s see where today’s questions take us.

1.  Are you more life of the party or more party pooper? If your answer is somewhere in the middle which side of the middle do you lean towards more?

I truly hate parties, unless I know the people well. It seems like most people are fake and try to brag about the things they do or have done while at parties. So, when it comes to those kinds of parties, I am definitely a party pooper. I usually stay to myself and people watch. If it is family parties, or I know most everyone there, I tend to be more “life of the party” – which, in my world, means I talk to people and participate – not dancing on the table.

Birthday party, beach party, cocktail party, dinner party, charity fundraiser, surprise party, costume party, garden party, Christmas party, reunion...what’s your favorite kind of party?

I would love a good Christmas party. I love Christmas anyway, so any excuse to go to an actual Christmas party is great. Last year, we were invited to one and there was a gift exchange and great food. We had a blast.

2. Cheese, wine, and balsamic vinegar all improve with age. What would you personally add to the list?

The first thing that pops into my miniaturist mind is a piece of nice wood. It takes on a patina that I love – that grey, weather look. Like a great piece of old barnwood. You know that piece of wood has seen some things, and will see some more things before its life is over.

3. How do you feel about your birthday? How do you want to be celebrated? Or don’t you?

My birthday has always been meh for me. I never had parties growing up and as I got older I was forced to eat where other people wanted to eat – it stopped being about me a long time ago. In August, I had probably one of the best birthdays ever. Mars and I went to a miniatures meeting, stopped to get ice cream, took a nap, read and Pete let ME pick where we ate – and I chose Cassano’s Pizza. It was a great day.

4. What remarkable feat, interesting piece of trivia, or historical event occurred on your birth day and month? Not necessarily your same birth year, just the same date/month.

I am not sure why I know this (I did have to look up the year, though.) On August 23, 1973, a botched bank robbery stretched into a hostage situation which coined the term “Stockholm Syndrome.” Stockholm Syndrome is when the person being held captive forms a bond with the person holding them captive. How’s that for a piece of trivia?

5. Share two good things about your life right now.

All of Pete’s costume pieces have come in – so, I am super excited about this weekend. I am not going share more just yet, but trust me – pictures are coming. Work is a lot less stressful.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I have turned into a complete nutcase when going out to the chicken coop in the dark. The other night, just as I stepped off the deck, a skunk passed me about 10 feet away. Thankfully, it didn’t even look at me and just continued across the yard. Now, I am worried I am going to come across one, a ‘la possum-style.

I had my hair done yesterday and my stylist has chickens. She said she was surprised by a fox the other night. Lots happening in the dark of night it seems. I would not want to encounter a skunk! I love old wood too. I’m going to have to look up miniaturist : ). Have a great day!

New fear unlocked. We have coyotes here, but thankfully I haven’t seen signs of them near the coop. A miniaturist is someone who builds dollhouses and mini scenes.

    Ha! A skunk!!! HELP!
My mom and I were on a ride in a golf cart, when a skunk popped out of the woods. It did this funny little dance in front of us, thankfully it did not spray.
    Happy Wednesday!

Yikes! I think I would pack up and move to town if I got sprayed!

It is fun to people watch at parties and I love a Christmas party too, they always have the best food!
That is so interesting about your birthday fact. I had no idea where Stockholm Syndrome came from until now.

I can’t even remember who told me that! It might have been my history teacher in high school.

Yikes. I think I would have a heart attack if there was a snake in there! A miniaturist is someone who builds dollhouses and other mini items/scenes.

I really enjoyed your Hodgepodge this week! I can totally relate to being more of a people-watcher at parties unless I know the group well — and I agree, Christmas parties are the best. There’s just something so festive and fun about them! I loved your answer about old barnwood improving with age, YES! I I love old dilapidated barns. Or old barns with weathered wood. There is so much character to them.

Your August birthday day sounded perfect… simple, relaxed, and all about the things you enjoy. That’s how it should be! And wow, what an interesting bit of trivia about your birthday.

I’m so glad to hear work has been less stressful, and I can’t wait to see Pete’s costume reveal. Also, I had to laugh at your chicken coop story — I’d be the same way after a run-in with a skunk that close. Here’s hoping your late-night trips stay skunk-free! I’m always terrified of a snake in the coop!
