Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 622

Here we are, waving goodbye to September and saying hello to October with another round of Wednesday Hodgepodge! This week’s questions are serving up all the cozy fall feels—think favorite autumn scents, a little country music, and plenty of southern comfort food (fried chicken, anyone?). We’ll also chat about what lifts your mood, sum up September in just three words, and of course, toss in a random thought to round things out. Let’s jump right in!

1. What’s your favorite fall scent? Would we find this in or around your home right now?

I’m all about the cozy, mixed-up scents, and my absolute favorite fall smell has to be Goose Creek Candles’ Farmhouse Pumpkin. It’s like pumpkin, spice cake, and buttery icing all rolled into one—and every time I catch a whiff, I’m instantly in full-on fall mode.

2. October is Country Music Month…are you a fan of country music? Do you have a favorite country artist? Ever been to Nashville? In terms of lifestyle are you more country mouse or city mouse?

I’m a country music fan – my favorites are Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, and Luke Bryan. The only time I’ve ever been to Nashville, I was in a stroller, so all I really remember is maybe going to the Grand Ole Opry. No doubt about it—I’m a total country mouse. Big cities? Not for me.

3. How about ‘country cooking’? (loosely defined as rich flavors, familiar foods, large portions, often fried, and often associated with the southern region of the US of A)?

chicken and dumplings-fried chicken-shrimp and grits-biscuits and gravy-mac and cheese-fried green tomatoes-cornbread-collard or turnip greens-deviled eggs-‘barbecue’-gumbo-banana pudding

Which of the foods listed is your favorite? Any on the list you haven’t tried or would say a firm no thank you to if offered?

I’m all about country cooking—and honestly, I’d say ‘yes, please!’ to any of those dishes. But if I had to pick favorites, it’s gotta be chicken and dumplings, and collard greens with a splash of vinegar and hot sauce. Now that’s some good eatin’!

4. What’s something that always has a positive impact on your mood?

Music is my go-to. On a rough day, I crank up Spotify and play my favorite songs as loud as they’ll go. If the weather’s nice, I roll down the windows, open the sunroof, and sing all the way home. By the time I pull into the driveway, I’m usually in a much better headspace.

5. As we say so long to September share a noun, a verb, and an adjective that tells us something about how that month looked for you.

Busy.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Well, I did it! Remember last week when I said I was getting a tattoo? Turns out, it really wasn’t that bad. It felt kind of like a mechanical pencil scraping across my skin, and I even dozed off partway through! I’m already excited for my next one.

Farmhouse Pumpkin is a constant in our house. I stock up so that I have them year round!! Music is definitely a mood booster for me, too. Your tattoo looks great!
