Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 623

Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol 623

It’s time for another round of Wednesday Hodgepodge—where we share stories, laughs, and a few random thoughts from the week! This edition is full of family ties, sweet treats, and fall memories. From talking about how the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree (literally, in some cases) to caramel favorites, itchy tattoos, and even a little unintentional early-morning excitement, this week’s questions are equal parts cozy and comical. Grab your coffee—or maybe a caramel sundae—and let’s dive in!

1. ‘The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.’ How does this saying ring true in your own family, either the one you grew up in or the one you made?

I would have to guess this is very true. My dad and I were like two peas in a pod. We both loved cars and working on them. We would watch racing together and go to swap meets and car shows.

2. Something you’re nuts about these days? How about something that’s driving you nuts?

Right now, I am nuts about Reese Cups with caramel. They are hard to find, but they are sooooo good. I buy them and ration them. Something that is driving me nuts is the itchiness of my tattoo. Its in the peeling stage and it is making me insane. I want to scratch it so bad.

3. What does abundance mean to you?

Having abundance to me means having the ability to pay my bills, travel, and being able to help others. Unfortunately, these days, money doesn’t go very far.

4. Caramel apple-caramel cake-caramel corn-caramel sundae-caramel macchiato…what’s your caramel treat of choice?

Wait. There is such a thing as caramel cake?! I am definitely hitting Pinterest for a recipe! Of all those listed, a caramel sundae is the top of the list. With whipped cream and a cherry.

5. What’s a childhood memory that always comes to mind as the leaves start to fall?

When I was growing up, we had two huge silver maples in our yard – one in the back and one in the front. My mom would always rake the leaves up each fall. She would rake the leaves into the shape of a house floorplan, complete with doors, rooms and windows. It would be huge! I would play in my “house” until she was done raking.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I have to tattle on myself—because it’s funny now. It’s been very dry in our area and the farmers have been bringing in soybeans. Our fields, and the ones beside us, were beans this year. They’ve been harvested, so I can see all the way to the swamp. Yesterday morning, I went out to let the chickens out and thought I saw fire at the edge of the trees surrounding the swamp and in the bean field.

I freaked out and ran back inside to wake Pete up. He comes out—in his robe again—and we walk behind the barn, but there’s nothing. Whatever it was is gone. I’m sure at this point Pete thinks I’m a nutcase. He goes back to bed, and I leave for work—purposely going around the “block” to see if I could spot anything. All I saw was some farm equipment in the field on the other side of the swamp. I think I saw the reflection of the harvest moon on the equipment. Or I’m crazy. One of the two.

Sometimes our eyes can certainly deceive us and I’m guessing it was some kind of reflection..glad you shared this cause it gave me a smile in remembering some of the things I have done like this. Caramel cake and caramel pie are both sooooo good.. you have to try them.

That did make me smile, how much alike you and your dad were.
I’m not massively keen on caramel but I need to find those Reese Cups with caramel. I do like the sound of them.
hehehe! That did make me chuckle about you maybe discovering a fire.

I haven’t tried or even seen the caramel Reese Cups, not that I need too. My hubs would love that so I guess I’ll have to look for them now that I know they exist. I feel like caramel cake is sort of a Southern thing. I’d never had it until I moved south. It’s usually a yellow cake with a thick caramel icing. The icing is decadent, delicious, and super sweet. Southern Living has a very good recipe for one if you’re looking. I’d love to know if you try it.
