Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 642
It’s time for another Wednesday Hodgepodge, and this week’s questions are such a fun mix! From America turning 250 (hello, fireworks and road trips!) to favorite sounds, loaded nachos, March celebrations, and a little life update thrown in for good measure… there’s a little bit of everything here. We’re talking travel dreams, farm life, tortilla chips piled high with jalapeños, and even some exciting career news that still feels surreal. So grab a snack (maybe nachos?) and settle in…let’s dive into this week’s Hodgepodge!
1. America celebrates turning 250 years old this year. Primary cities set to lead the celebrations on July 4th are Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. Other significant locations for celebrating will be Charleston SC and the ‘historic triangle’ which includes Jamestown-Willimasburg-Yorktown Virginia.
Of the cities listed how many have you seen in person? Of the cities listed which would you most like to visit this year? Any plans to do so? What’s one place in America you think everyone should see? If you’re not American what’s one place in the US you’d like to see?
This year, the kids wanted to make another New England roadtrip for vacation – Boston is on the list. I am not sure if there is anything celebration-y while we are there.
As for the others, I have only been to New York. I wouldn’t mind visiting Charleston, SC. It probably won’t be this year – but maybe one of these days.
I think everyone should visit Grand Canyon. It is truly breathtaking and beautiful.
2. Three sounds you love to hear?
The laugh of a child. It always makes me happy. The sounds of birds. The sound of the breeze through the pine trees here on the farm. If you close your eyes, it sounds like waves crashing on the beach.
3. Three sounds you hate to hear?
Sirens – squads, fire engines, cops… doesn’t matter. The microwave door slamming shut. The sound of coyotes close by when I am shutting the chickens up for the night.
4. February 24th is/was National Tortilla Chip Day. Are you a fan? With salsa, guacamole, queso, or just plain please? Do you like nachos? With what on top? Is there anything (besides nachos) you make that calls for tortilla chips?
I love tortilla chips and will eat them with salsa, guacamole, queso, and/or beans. I LOVE NACHOS! My favorite nachos have ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, black olives, beans, sour cream, and a ton of jalapenos. Whenever we go to a sporting event, and I get nachos, I always tell the person making them that when they think they have put on enough jalapenos on, put more.
The only two things I can think of that I make with tortilla chips is tortilla soup (I crunch chips on top) and a taco bake dish that has tortilla chips on the bottom.
5. We March into March with next week’s Hodgepodge…what’s one thing on your March calendar that makes you smile?
My kids’ 17th birthday! I’m sad they are growing up, but I love celebrating their birthday with them.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Exciting things have been going on in my life. I interviewed for a new job as a senior accountant just before Christmas. While there, the controller instead offered me an assistant controller position. I accepted and it has been the best decision ever. I have finally found my place – I am still helping others, which fills my soul. My team and manager are amazing. Everyone is down to earth and friendly. You can tell everyone loves their job and helping others. I still can’t believe I found my place.

Congratulations on the new job! It’s such a blessing to find a job that is the right fit for you. I’m reminded of how long I’ve been blogging when people start talking about how old their children are now. I think when I first read your other blog they were really young. Time flies!

Ahh! I said the Grand Canyon for question 1 too! I don’t think photos do it justice!
The laughter of a child is such a wonderful sound and sirens always panic me, even if they are just passing by.
Congrats on the new job! It sounds fantastic.
