Recipe Highlights

Quick and Easy: The hardest part of this delicious layered salad is hard boiling the eggs. And, insider tip… they sell them already hard boiled!

Great for any occasion: This salad is perfect for reunions, get togethers, potlucks, or just a Tuesday night.

Perfect for meal prep: I have made this salad and eaten it for lunch several days in a row. Its delicious the longer it sits!

Ingredients for Layered Salad

Iceberg Lettuce: Crisp and refreshing, with a sweeter taste than romaine or spinach. While, not the most nutritionally dense lettuce, it holds up well with the dressing and other ingredients.

Green Pepper: Adds a delicious crunch to this salad. Don’t like peppers? Omit them. You can also try red or yellow peppers, for a slightly different taste.

Red Onion: One of my favorite veggies, it lends a spicy bite to the salad.

Hard Boiled Eggs: Don’t be afraid to buy pre-cooked hard boiled eggs.

Cheddar Cheese: I have made this salad with dairy and non-dairy cheese. Both ways were delicious. Definitely splurge for a higher-quality, name-brand cheese. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Bacon: Need I say more?

Making the Salad

Step 1: mix together the sugar, pepper and salad dressing.

Step 2: in the serving dish, layer the ingredients except for the cheese and bacon.

Step 3: spread the salad dressing mix over the top of the salad, all the way to the edges, to seal the flavors.

Step 4: Top with cheese and bacon.

Step 5: Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight.

Step 6: Before serving, mix the dressing and layers together.

I made a similar salad for a 4th of July party we attended and it was a huge hit! Fun fact: I used Bacos instead of bacon because they are kosher and, well, bacon is obviously not. My son-in-law who keeps kosher was able to enjoy the salad!
